The Brave Warrior and the Golden Dragon Story
The Brave Warrior and the Golden Dragon Story
Long ago, in a small village near the mountains, there lived a young warrior named Tom. Tom was not very tall, but he was brave and kind. He had dark hair and strong arms from working in his father’s shop. Tom loved to help people in his village.
The village was a happy place. Children played in the streets. Farmers grew food in the fields. Old people sat in the sun and told stories. Everyone knew each other and helped their neighbors. But one day, everything changed.
A big golden dragon came to live in the mountains above the village. The dragon was as big as ten houses. Its scales shone like gold coins in the sunlight. The dragon had huge wings and long, sharp teeth. When it flew over the village, its shadow covered the whole town.
At first, the people were not scared. They thought the dragon was beautiful. But then bad things started to happen. The dragon was very hungry. It ate all the sheep and cows from the farms. It took food from the market. The people had nothing left to eat.
The village leader was an old man named Robert. He was wise but worried. He called all the people together in the town square. “We need help,” he said. “The dragon is taking all our food. Soon we will be very hungry. What can we do?”
The people talked and talked. Some wanted to move away. Others wanted to hide in their houses. But Tom stood up and said, “I will go talk to the dragon. Maybe we can find a way to live together in peace.”
All the people looked at Tom. His mother was scared. “Tom, the dragon is too big and dangerous,” she said. “Please don’t go.”
But Tom’s father put his hand on Tom’s shoulder. “My son is brave,” he said. “If anyone can help us, it is Tom.”
Tom got ready for his trip to the mountains. He took some bread and water. He took his father’s old sword, but he hoped he would not need to use it. He wanted to talk to the dragon, not fight it.
The next morning, Tom said goodbye to his family and friends. Many people came to watch him leave. Some cried. Others wished him good luck. Tom walked out of the village and up the mountain path.
The mountain was steep and rocky. Tom walked for many hours. The sun was hot, and his feet hurt. But he kept going. He wanted to save his village.
As Tom got closer to the top of the mountain, he could smell smoke. He could hear loud sounds like thunder. The dragon was near. Tom’s heart beat fast, but he was not afraid. He was ready to meet the golden dragon.
At the top of the mountain, Tom found a big cave. Smoke came out of the cave. Tom could see gold light inside. This was where the dragon lived. Tom took a deep breath and walked into the cave.
Inside the cave, there were piles of gold coins and jewels everywhere. In the middle of all the treasure sat the golden dragon. It was even bigger than Tom thought. The dragon’s eyes were like big red fires.
When the dragon saw Tom, it lifted its huge head. “Who are you, little man?” the dragon asked in a voice like thunder. “Why do you come to my home?”
Tom was scared, but he stood up straight. “My name is Tom,” he said. “I come from the village below. I want to talk to you.”
The dragon laughed. The sound was so loud that rocks fell from the ceiling. “Talk? Most people run away when they see me. But you are different. What do you want to say?”
Tom stepped forward. “You are taking all the food from our village. The people are getting hungry. We need food to live. Can you please help us?”
The dragon looked surprised. “Help you? I am a dragon. Dragons take what they want. That is how we live.”
“But why do you need so much food?” Tom asked. “You are just one dragon. Our village has many families with children.”
The golden dragon was quiet for a long time. Then it said something that surprised Tom. “I eat so much because I am lonely. When I am sad, I eat more food. I have lived alone in this cave for one hundred years. I have no friends. No one wants to be friends with a dragon.”
Tom felt sorry for the dragon. He understood now. The dragon was not mean. It was just sad and lonely. “I can be your friend,” Tom said. “But first, you must stop taking our food.”
The dragon’s red eyes got bright. “You want to be my friend? Really? No one has ever wanted to be my friend before.”
“Yes,” Tom said. “But friends help each other. If you stop taking our food, I will visit you every week. We can talk and play games. You will not be lonely anymore.”
The golden dragon thought about this. “But what will I eat if I don’t take food from your village?”
Tom smiled. “There are many fish in the lake on the other side of the mountain. There are wild animals in the forest. You can hunt for your own food like other dragons do.”
The dragon nodded slowly. “You are right. I was being lazy. I can find my own food.” Then the dragon looked sad again. “But how do I know you will really come back to visit me?”
Tom reached into his bag and took out half of his bread. “Here,” he said. “Let’s eat together now. This will be our first meal as friends.”
The dragon was so happy that tears came from its big red eyes. “No one has ever shared food with me before,” it said.
Tom and the dragon sat together and ate the bread. They talked about many things. The dragon told Tom about flying high in the sky and seeing the whole world below. Tom told the dragon about life in the village and about his family and friends.
When it was time to go, the dragon said, “I promise I will not take any more food from your village. I will hunt in the forest and catch fish in the lake.”
Tom smiled. “And I promise to come back next week. We are friends now.”
Tom walked back down the mountain. When he got to the village, everyone was waiting for him. They were surprised to see him safe and happy.
“What happened?” asked Robert, the village leader.
Tom told everyone about his talk with the dragon. “The dragon was just lonely,” he explained. “It needed a friend, not an enemy. Now it will find its own food, and I will visit it every week.”
The people of the village were amazed. They were happy that Tom had solved their problem without fighting. From that day on, the golden dragon never took their food again.
Every week, Tom climbed the mountain to visit his new friend. Sometimes other people from the village came too. The children loved to hear the dragon’s stories about flying and adventure.
The dragon was never lonely again. The village always had enough food. And Tom became known as the bravest warrior in all the land, not because he fought and won battles, but because he chose kindness and friendship instead of fear and fighting.
And they all lived happily ever after.
