American English Conversation Practice: At A Restaurant
Waiter: Hello! Welcome to Sunny Café. Do you want a table for two?
Anna: Yes, please. Can we sit by the window?
Waiter: Sure, follow me. Here’s your table. I’ll bring the menus.
Mark: Thanks!
(The waiter leaves and comes back with menus.)
Waiter: Here are your menus. Do you want water first?
Anna: Yes, two glasses of water, please.
Mark: And can we have some bread too?
Waiter: Of course. I’ll bring water and bread. Be right back.
(The waiter returns with water and a basket of bread.)
Waiter: Here’s your water and bread. Are you ready to order?
Anna: Hmm, not yet. Can you give us a few minutes?
Waiter: No problem. Take your time. I’ll check back soon.
(A few minutes pass. The waiter returns.)
Waiter: Hi again! Ready now?
Mark: Yes. I’ll have the chicken pasta.
Waiter: Good choice. Anything to drink with that?
Mark: Just a cola, please.
Waiter: Got it. And for you, ma’am?
Anna: I’ll take the vegetable pizza.
Waiter: Okay, one vegetable pizza. Any drink?
Anna: Yes, a lemonade, please.
Waiter: Perfect. So, chicken pasta with cola, and vegetable pizza with lemonade. Anything else?
Waiter: Great. I’ll send your order to the kitchen. It’ll be ready soon.
(The waiter leaves. Anna and Mark chat.)
Anna: This place looks nice. Have you been here before?
Mark: Yeah, once. The food was really good.
Anna: I hope the pizza is tasty. I’m so hungry!
Mark: Me too. The pasta here smells amazing already.
(The waiter returns with drinks.)
Waiter: Here’s your cola and lemonade. Your food is almost ready.
Anna: Thank you! How long will it take?
Waiter: About ten minutes. Is that okay?
Mark: Yes, that’s fine. Thanks.
Waiter: Enjoy your drinks! I’ll be back with the food.
(The waiter leaves again. Anna and Mark sip their drinks.)
Anna: This lemonade is so fresh!
Mark: Yeah, my cola is nice and cold. Good start!
(Ten minutes later, the waiter brings the food.)
Waiter: Here we go! Chicken pasta for you, sir, and vegetable pizza for you, ma’am. Enjoy your meal!
Anna: Wow, this looks delicious. Thank you!
Mark: Yeah, thanks a lot.
Waiter: You’re welcome. Need anything else?
Anna: Maybe some extra napkins?
Waiter: Sure, I’ll grab some. Anything for you, sir?
Mark: No, I’m good. Thanks.
Waiter: Okay, I’ll be back with napkins. Enjoy!
(The waiter returns with napkins.)
Waiter: Here are your napkins. How’s the food?
Anna: It’s great! The pizza is perfect.
Mark: Yeah, the pasta is awesome. Good job!
Waiter: Glad you like it! Let me know if you need more.
(They eat and chat. Later, the waiter checks in.)
Waiter: All done? How was everything?
Anna: Amazing. I’m so full!
Mark: Same here. Really good meal.
Waiter: Happy to hear that. Want dessert? We have cake and ice cream.
Anna: Oh, I don’t know. I’m stuffed.
Mark: Me too. Maybe just the bill?
Waiter: Sure, I’ll get it. Be right back.
(The waiter returns with the bill.)
Waiter: Here’s your bill. It’s $35. Pay here or at the counter.
Mark: We’ll pay here. Can you take a card?
Waiter: Yes, no problem. I’ll bring the machine.
(The waiter returns with a card machine. Mark pays.)
Waiter: All set! Thank you. Come back soon!
Anna: We will. Thanks for everything!
Mark: Yeah, great service. See you!
Waiter: Bye! Have a good day!
(Anna and Mark leave, smiling.)
