Conversation Practice: At the Restaurant

Characters: Emily and Jack

Emily: Hi, Jack! I’m so hungry. What are you going to order?

Jack: Hi, Emily! I’m thinking about getting a burger. It sounds so good right now. What about you?

Emily: I’m in the mood for pasta. Maybe spaghetti with marinara sauce.

Jack: That sounds great! Do you want to share some garlic bread?

Emily: Yes! I love garlic bread. It’s the best side dish. Should we get a salad too?

Jack: I think so. A Caesar salad would go well with our meal.

Emily: Good idea! I’ll ask the waiter to bring it. Are you having water to drink?

Jack: Yes, I’ll have water. I’m trying to stay healthy today. What are you drinking?

Emily: I’ll have lemonade. It’s so refreshing.

(The waiter arrives to take their order.)

Waiter: Hi there! What can I get for you today?

Emily: Hi! I’ll have the spaghetti with marinara sauce and a Caesar salad, please.

Jack: I’ll have the burger with fries and some garlic bread.

Waiter: Great choices! I’ll be right back with your drinks.

(The waiter leaves.)

Jack: This place has really good food. I’ve been here a few times before.

Emily: I can tell! The menu looks amazing. I’m really looking forward to my pasta.

(They chat while waiting for their food.)

Emily: Here’s our food! Everything looks delicious.

Jack: It does! Let’s dig in. I’m starving.

Conversation Practice: At the Movie Theater

Characters: Sara and Alex

Sara: Hey, Alex! I’m so excited for the movie tonight. Have you seen the trailer?

Alex: Hi, Sara! Yes, I watched it yesterday. It looks awesome! I can’t wait to see it. What time does the movie start?

Sara: It starts at 7:30. We still have some time before the movie. Want to grab some popcorn?

Alex: Yes, definitely! I always get popcorn when I’m at the movies. Do you want a large size?

Sara: I think I’ll go for a medium size. I’m not that hungry. Are you getting a drink too?

Alex: I’ll get a soda. How about you?

Sara: I’ll take a bottle of water. I don’t want anything too sweet.

Alex: Good choice! I always drink soda, but water is better for you. Should we find our seats?

Sara: Yeah, let’s go. I like sitting in the middle, but not too close to the screen.

Alex: Same here! Middle seats are perfect. I hope this movie lives up to the hype.

Sara: I’ve heard great things about it, so I’m sure it will be good! Let’s enjoy the show!

(They enter the theater and find their seats.)

Sara: This place is pretty full! I think it’s going to be a good crowd.

Alex: Yeah, it looks like a lot of people are excited. Let’s settle in and get ready.

(The movie starts.)
