Real-Life English Conversations

Conversation Practice: At the Bookstore

Characters: Anna and Jack

Anna: Hey, Jack! What are you looking for?

Jack: Hi, Anna! I’m just browsing. I need a new book to read. How about you?

Anna: Same here! I’m hoping to find something exciting. What kind of books do you like?

Jack: I usually read thrillers or mysteries. I like books that keep me guessing. What about you?

Anna: I love fantasy books! The bigger the world, the better. Have you read The Hobbit?

Jack: Yes! It was amazing. I also love The Da Vinci Code. It was full of surprises.

Anna: I’ve heard about that book! Maybe I’ll try it next. I’m looking for something like Harry Potter, but a little different.

Jack: If you like Harry Potter, you might enjoy Percy Jackson. It’s about Greek mythology, and it’s really fun.

Anna: Oh, that sounds perfect! I’ll check it out. Are you getting anything today?

Jack: I think so! I’ve been wanting to read The Silent Patient. It’s a psychological thriller.

Anna: That sounds interesting. I’ll have to look for that one too. Let’s go check out the new arrivals.

Jack: Good idea! Maybe we’ll find something new to read together.

(They walk toward the new arrivals section.)

Anna: Look at all these books! It’s hard to choose.

Jack: I know! There are so many good ones. Let’s pick one and then head to the checkout.

Anna: Okay, I think I’ve found mine. Percy Jackson it is!

Jack: And I’m getting The Silent Patient. Let’s go!

Conversation Practice: At the Gym

Characters: Emma and Lucas

Emma: Hey, Lucas! Ready for our workout?

Lucas: Hi, Emma! Yes, I’m excited. What are we doing today?

Emma: I was thinking we could start with some cardio. How about a quick jog on the treadmill?

Lucas: Sounds good! I like warming up with cardio. How long do you usually run for?

Emma: I usually go for 20 minutes. I don’t want to overdo it. What about you?

Lucas: I usually do about 15 minutes. After that, I do some strength training.

Emma: Me too! I was thinking of focusing on arms today. Want to do some weightlifting?

Lucas: Definitely! I’ll start with some bicep curls. How about you?

Emma: I’ll do some shoulder presses. I need to work on my upper body strength.

Lucas: Good choice! After that, we can do some core exercises. Maybe planks?

Emma: Planks are great! I can feel them working. We should also stretch after the workout.

Lucas: Yes, stretching is important! We don’t want to get sore later.

(They finish their workout.)

Emma: That was a good session! I feel strong.

Lucas: Me too! I love how energized I feel after a workout. Let’s grab some water.

Emma: Great idea. Hydration is key! We should do this again tomorrow.

Lucas: Absolutely! Same time tomorrow?

Emma: Sounds good to me. Let’s keep it going!
