English Conversation: A Rainy Day Reunion
A Rainy Day Reunion
-
Amit – A software engineer, recently moved back to his hometown.
-
Riya – His childhood friend, now a schoolteacher.
-
Scene: A small café near the bus stop, on a rainy afternoon.
Scene 1: Meeting After a Long Time
(The sound of rain is heavy outside. Amit runs into a café, shaking off the water from his umbrella. He looks around, surprised to see Riya sitting at a corner table.)
Amit: (smiling widely) Wait… Riya? Is that you?
Riya: (looks up, shocked) Amit? Oh my God! It’s really you!
Amit: (laughing) I can’t believe this! How many years has it been?
Riya: At least ten, maybe more. You look almost the same, just older and taller.
Amit: And you—wow—you haven’t changed much either. Still the same smile.
Riya: (smiling) Sit down, sit down. What are you doing here on this rainy day?
Amit: I just moved back to town for work. Thought I’d explore the old streets. Never expected to bump into you.
Riya: That’s fate, Amit. Rain always brings surprises.
Scene 2: Remembering School Days
Amit: Do you remember how we used to run in the rain after school?
Riya: (laughing) Of course! And then we’d get scolded by teachers for dripping water in the classroom.
Amit: And you always carried that bright red umbrella.
Riya: Oh yes! And you used to snatch it just to annoy me.
Amit: (grinning) Guilty! But you also used to hide my lunchbox.
Riya: (playfully) Only because you never shared your mom’s parathas with me.
Amit: (laughs) True. Mom’s cooking was everyone’s favorite.
Scene 3: Talking About Life
Riya: So, where were you all these years?
Amit: I went to Bangalore for studies, then got a job there. But I missed home, so I finally came back. What about you?
Riya: I stayed here. Became a teacher at our old school.
Amit: Really? That’s amazing. So you must be teaching kids to run in the rain too?
Riya: (smiles) Not really. Now I’m the one telling them not to get wet. Funny how life changes.
Amit: (nodding) Yeah, childhood feels like another world.
Scene 4: Watching the Rain
(They pause for a moment, watching the heavy rain through the café window. People are running with umbrellas, buses are splashing water on the roads.)
Riya: Rain always makes me feel calm. It’s like nature is washing away worries.
Amit: Exactly. And it brings memories. Remember the first time we bunked classes and sat under that big banyan tree?
Riya: (laughing loudly) Oh God, yes! And then the principal caught us.
Amit: He made us write “I will not bunk class” a hundred times.
Riya: My hand hurt for two days.
Amit: (smiling) But it was worth it.
Scene 5: Sharing Feelings
Riya: You know, Amit, I always wondered if you’d come back.
Amit: Honestly, I wondered the same about meeting old friends. But seeing you here… it feels like no time has passed.
Riya: Sometimes, friendships are like that. Even after years, the bond stays.
Amit: True. Do you ever miss the old gang?
Riya: Every day. I still meet a few of them. But it’s not the same. Everyone is busy with jobs, families, responsibilities.
Amit: Yeah… life pulls us in different directions.
Scene 6: Fun Memories
Riya: Remember our annual day dance? You stepped on my foot!
Amit: (laughing) Hey, that was not my fault. You moved too fast.
Riya: Excuses, excuses! My foot was swollen for two days.
Amit: But we still won second prize.
Riya: Only because the judges found us funny.
Amit: (smiling) At least we gave them entertainment.
Scene 7: Rain as a Symbol
Riya: You know what I love about rain? It connects the past and present. Like today—it brought us together.
Amit: That’s true. Maybe the rain wanted us to meet again.
Riya: (softly) Maybe some reunions are written in the clouds.
Amit: Beautiful thought, Riya. You sound more like a poet than a teacher.
Riya: (smiles shyly) Teaching makes you say such things sometimes.
Scene 8: Dreams and Future
Amit: So, what’s your dream now?
Riya: I just want to guide my students and make them feel confident. And you?
Amit: I want to balance work and life. Not just run after money. Maybe even do something creative someday.
Riya: Like writing a book?
Amit: Maybe. Or telling stories about rainy day reunions.
Riya: (laughs) Then don’t forget to add this café scene.
Amit: I promise.
Scene 9: Closing Moments
(The rain starts slowing down. The streets outside look fresh and clean.)
Riya: Looks like the rain is taking a break.
Amit: Yeah… but I don’t want this moment to end.
Riya: Me neither. It feels good to talk after so long.
Amit: Let’s not lose touch again.
Riya: Agreed. We’ll meet often. Rain or no rain.
Amit: Deal. But rainy days will always be special.
Riya: Yes. Because they remind us that some bonds never fade.
(They smile at each other, step out into the fresh, rain-washed street, and walk together, like old friends rediscovering their bond.)
