Two Short English Stories About Luck

The Farmer’s Fortune: The Story of the Patil Family

In a small village, there lived a poor farmer named Raghav Patil with his wife, Laxmi, and their two children, Arjun and Priya.

They owned a tiny piece of land, but the soil was dry, and the rains were never enough.

Despite their hard work, the family barely grew enough crops to eat.

The Patils were kind and honest people, but life was a struggle. Every evening, they would sit together and dream of a better life.

The Mysterious Bag

One day, while digging in the field, Raghav’s spade hit something hard.

Curious, he dug deeper and found a small, locked bag. He rushed home to show his family.

“What could it be?” Priya asked excitedly.

Arjun suggested they open it, so Raghav broke the lock carefully. Inside, they found shiny gold coins and jewels!

“It must belong to someone,” Laxmi said. “We should take it to the village head.”

The next morning, Raghav took the bag to the village headman and explained where he had found it.

The headman checked old records and announced, “This treasure has no owner.

According to the law, it belongs to you.”

The family couldn’t believe their luck!

A Smart Plan

Instead of spending the treasure on fancy things, Laxmi said, “Let’s use this wisely.

We can buy more land and grow better crops.”

They bought a bigger plot of land and used some of the money to dig a well for water.

Raghav also bought good seeds and farming tools. Arjun and Priya helped their father with planting and watering.

Growth and Success

With hard work and the right tools, the Patil family’s farm flourished.

They grew rice, wheat, and vegetables in abundance.

Their crops were so good that traders from nearby towns came to buy them.

The Patils saved their money and built a small storage house for their crops.

They also bought a tractor, which made farming easier and faster.

In just a few years, they became the most successful farmers in the village.

Their farm provided jobs to many villagers, and they even started teaching others how to improve their farming methods.

Sharing the Blessings

The Patils didn’t keep all their wealth to themselves.

They built a school in the village so every child could get an education.

They also set up a clinic for the sick and gave food to those in need.

Their kindness earned them respect and love from everyone in the village.

The Lesson

The Patil family’s story shows that honesty, hard work, and smart choices can turn luck into lasting success.

The Patils went from being poor farmers to being a family that inspired the entire village.

They lived happily ever after, always helping others and staying humble.

The Magic Paintbrush: The Story of the Das Family

Long ago, in a small village, lived a poor family named the Das family.

Hari Das, the father, worked as a painter, but he only painted walls in people’s homes.

His wife, Radha, did odd jobs like cleaning and washing clothes.

They had a son named Aman, who loved to draw pictures with a small stick on the ground, as they couldn’t afford paper or pencils.

Their house was old and leaky, and some nights they went to bed hungry.

But despite their struggles, they were a loving and hopeful family.

A Magical Gift

One evening, as Hari was returning home from work, he found an old man sitting by the roadside, looking tired and hungry.

Hari offered him his last piece of bread and some water.

The old man smiled and said, “You have a kind heart, Hari.

I want to give you something special.”

He handed Hari a paintbrush and said, “This is no ordinary brush. Whatever you paint with it will come to life. But remember, use it wisely to help others.”

Hari was confused but thanked the man and went home.

The First Miracle

The next day, Hari decided to test the paintbrush.

He painted a simple loaf of bread on a piece of wood.

To his surprise, the bread became real! Excited, he painted a sack of rice, which also came to life.

Hari told his family about the magical brush.

They decided to use it carefully.

Radha suggested, “Let’s paint tools and seeds to grow food.

That way, we can help ourselves and the village.”

Helping the Village

With the magical brush, Hari painted farming tools, bags of seeds, and even water pumps for the farmers in the village.

Soon, the crops grew healthy and plentiful.

The village, which had struggled with drought and hunger, became green and prosperous.

Word spread about Hari’s kindness and his magical gift.

Traders came to buy the crops, and the Das family started earning more money.

A Test of Greed

One day, a rich but greedy landlord from a nearby town heard about the magical brush.

He came to the Das family and said, “Give me the brush! I’ll pay you lots of money.”

Hari refused. “This brush is not for greed. It is for helping people.”

The landlord became angry and tried to steal the brush, but Aman quickly painted a wall to trap him.

The landlord apologized and promised to never trouble them again.

From Poverty to Prosperity

The Das family used the money they earned to build a new house.

They also opened a school and a health center in the village.

Hari taught young people how to paint, and Radha trained women in different skills so they could earn money.

Though they had become rich, the Das family stayed humble and used their wealth to improve the lives of others.

The Lesson

The Das family’s story teaches us that kindness and generosity can create magic in our lives.

By using their blessings wisely, they turned their own fortune into a gift for many.

And so, the Das family lived happily ever after, always helping those in need.
